An Update from the Library Director:

A Message from the Director

COVID-19 Update, Tuesday, May 5 @ 5:30 pm

Summer is just around the corner and Howard Miller Public Library is getting ready to keep the love of all things reading going strong in 2020.  Library staff members have been diligently working from their homes on devising creative virtual programs and launching the summer reading app we will be using to help HMPL patrons of all ages stay engaged.  All tracking of progress for Summer Reading 2020 will take place on this digital platform.  Even though our program is 100% digital this year, the prizes are real!

We are looking forward to being able to bring staff back to the library building; however, we are not exactly sure when that will be.  It depends on guidance provided by governmental and health authorities.  As soon as staff are able to work in the library building, we will begin accepting returns of library materials and preparing for curbside service.  A multi-phase reopening plan has been developed to provide the highest level of accessibility and safety for both community members and staff members alike as we move forward.  As soon as HMPL is able to begin the reopening process, we will update our social media and website with the exciting news.

In the meantime, we hope you are enjoying our digital collection.  If you don’t have a library card, contact us and we will assist you in getting a virtual card allowing you access to OverDrive (Libby app) and RBdigital.  In addition, we are offering programs such as Virtual Story Time with Mrs. Russell, Bookworm Buddies with Miss Jess and Math Moments with Mr. Dustin.  For information on resources available to you during the COVID-19 pandemic, please go to our website at  and check out our page dedicated to connecting you with the latest local, state and federal information.

This has been a difficult season, but we are going to come back stronger than ever.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.  I can be reached via email at

Wishing you wellness,

Heather Wood-Gramza

Director, Howard Miller Library and Community Center
