On Thursday, January 13 Dr. Robert Swierenga will present “The 1851 Political Brawl at Zeeland’s First Church” at the location of the event, First Reformed Church of Zeeland. Learn about a fascinating episode of early Zeeland history from one of the foremost experts on Dutch immigration history to the United States. 

Dr. Robert Swierenga is professor emeritus at Hope College and the Van Raalte Institute. An expert on Dutch immigration, Dr. Swierenga has published extensively on Dutch Americans and the Reformed church. A select of his prominent book publications include: Holland Michigan: From Dutch Colony to Dynamic City, Dutch Chicago: A History of the Hollanders in the Windy City, and Faith and Family: Dutch Immigration and Settlement in the United States, 1820–1920.

The School Bell Series features local speakers on local topics and is presented by the Zeeland Historical Society.
