The City Clerk’s Department is responsible for all local Election functions including maintaining current and accurate registration of voters, supervising and conducting all National, State, City, and Zeeland School elections.

The Nine (9) days of Early Voting for all State & Federal Elections will now be held at the Howard Miller Community Center for City of Zeeland Registered Voters only.

Register to Vote

If Registering to Vote 14 days or less prior to an Election you wish to vote in, you must register in the Zeeland City Clerk’s office in person with proof of residency.

Absentee Ballot Update

New: Beginning with the August 5, 2025 Local Primary Election, voters not on a automatic Ballot Send list will need to request and complete and return an application for absentee ballot for each election in order to receive a ballot.

How to Vote Absentee

To request to be sent a ballot automatically each election, you may come in to the City Clerk’s Office, or complete the application online below.

Ballot Deadline

Every Ballot returned to the Clerk’s office by the close of polls on Election day (8:00 p.m.) will be counted.

Absentee Ballot Deadline

The last day an Absentee Ballot can be mailed to a voter is the Saturday prior to election day. The City Clerk’s Office is generally open the Saturday prior to election from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Call to verify hours or check online below.

Other Information

Licenses

Licensing is also the responsibility of the Clerk’s Office. This includes issuing all licenses required by city ordinance, recording all actions, of resolutions and ordinances of the City Council; and to examine and verify all accounts and claims against the city. Business licenses may be obtained from the clerk,

Notary Public Service

Documents can be Notarized in the Clerk’s Office.  The document must be signed in front of the Notary Public and proper ID must be shown at the time of signing.

Meeting Minutes

The clerk’s office also acts as recording secretary for the City Council meetings, Board of Public Works, Shopping Area Redevelopment Board, Clean Water Plant Technical Review Committee, Zeeland Hospital Authority and the Economic Development Authority meetings. This department provides assistance to the Mayor and City Manager. 

FOIA Requests (Freedom of Information Act)

The City Clerk is the official FOIA Coordinator.  All FOIA requests are recorded and processed by the Clerk’s office.
