Department
The Street Department provides maintenance, cleaning, construction, and other special services to keep Zeeland’s streets, sidewalks, and bike paths safe, clean, and in great condition.

Responsibilities
Road Maintenance
Repairing bike paths and sidewalks
Repairing brick pavers and light bollards
Blacktopping and patching
Grading gravel
Street sweeping
Snow
sidewalks, and parking lots
Salting of city streets and roadways
Trees and Grass
Trimming trees
Mowing road shoulders
Trimming around signs
Signs & Signals
Installing and repairing signs and sign posts
Painting “Stop” bars, parking bars and crosswalks on streets
Maintaining traffic signals
Sewers
Maintenance and cleaning of the city’s sanitary sewer system
Cleaning storm sewer catch basins
Cleaning ditches with backhoe
Repairing manholes and catch basins
Storm Drains
Let’s all do our part to mitigate pollution into our waterways by not pouring or placing the following in any storm drains or catch basins:
- Tree and Yard Waste Debris
- Paint
- Gas or Oil
- Fertilizer
- Car Wash Soap
- Any Household Items
These items end up in local rivers, streams and lakes.
Construction Projects
The Street Department is involved in the designing and planning of all street and bike path construction projects. We are constantly working on our 10-year street plan with the goal of keeping our community safe and staying within our budget.
Special Services
We also provide seasonal special services including City Spring Curbside Cleanup and Fall Leaf Pick-Up (November) at the Riley Street Brush Site.
