Full-Time Equipment Operator

The City of Zeeland Streets Department is seeking a full-time Equipment Operator. This position performs a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled duties related to street, infrastructure, and public area maintenance.

What You’ll Do

• Perform maintenance and repair tasks involving carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, road work, and utility repair
• Construct and maintain public improvements such as retaining walls, drainage structures, and building enhancements
• Operate equipment including loaders, backhoes, mowers, sweepers, dump trucks, snowplows, and power tools
• Conduct street maintenance including patching, sealing, sign repair, striping, curb work, and sidewalk repairs
• Support sewage and drainage system tasks (jetting, catch basin work)
• Participate in 24-hour response needs, especially in winter seasons
• Perform grounds and building maintenance as needed
• Maintain tools, equipment, and assist with vehicle maintenance

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred
• At least two years of construction, equipment operation, or street maintenance experience
• Valid Michigan Class B CDL required, Class A preferred
• Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operation, infrastructure maintenance, safety procedures, and construction tools/materials
• Ability to perform a wide range of skilled maintenance tasks
