Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern
The BPW is seeking a motivated 2026 summer GIS Intern to support the team. The intern will work closely with the GIS Analyst, receiving direction and guidance on daily tasks, assisting with updates to the ZBPW GIS databases, and performing field data collection and maintenance activities related to utility asset infrastructure.
This internship is sponsored by the American Public Power Association (APPA). As part of the program requirements, the intern must submit two summary abstracts and a final report to APPA during the course of the internship.
In addition, the selected candidate may be eligible for travel reimbursement to attend an APPA‑approved conference within 12 months of completing the internship.
What You’ll Do
- Utilize ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online for the maintenance and creation of geographic data.
- Use as-built drawings to update feature geometry and attributes.
- Create utility infrastructure maps for ZBPW use.
- Collect field data following all ZBPW safety requirements.
- Work with others to incorporate existing data into the GIS system.
Minimum Qualifications
- Actively pursuing a degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering, Drafting, Surveying, or related field from an accredited institution.
- Must have excellent attention to detail.
- Valid MI driver’s license.
- Ability to communicate in oral and written form.
