Proposed: Mead Johnson Project at E. Main Avenue
Current Status of the Project
In 2025, Mead Johnson proposed an expansion of its E. Main Avenue facility as part of a long-term investment in its Zeeland operations. Headquartered in Zeeland for more than 100 years, Mead Johnson employs approximately 400–500 local workers and remains a significant part of the community. The proposal was reviewed through Zeeland’s established public planning process, including consideration by the Planning Commission and City Council. The project prompted meaningful discussion among city officials, neighboring residents, and the broader community as the City worked to balance economic investment with neighborhood character. Six properties were rezoned to support this potential development. Project activity from 2025, including meeting materials and timelines are available through the 2025 Project Summary button below.
2026 Project Summary
- On February 6, 2026, Mead Johnson, LLC submitted a request to vacate a portion of N. Division Street north of E. Main Avenue. The request will come before City Council on February 16, 2026 for referral to the Planning Commission as the first step in the City’s review process.
- On February 16th, City Council referred the North Division Street vacation request to the Planning Commission for study and a recommendation in accordance with the City’s street vacation procedure. This item will come before the Planning Commission for the first time at their meeting on March 5th. At that meeting, staff will recommend that the Planning Commission schedule a public hearing to take comments on the proposed vacation. If the Planning Commission supports that recommendation, the public hearing would be expected to occur at the Commission’s April 16th meeting.
